Mexilhoeira Grande, Western Algarve, Portugal
View of Monte das Estrelas from a neighbouring property. Picture taken in March, mere weeks after completion of the project. The monte has a height of 106 m (348 ft), and stands approximately 55 m
(160 ft) above the riverbed. Access is served by 1.6 km (1 mile)
of internal roads. Hidden in the bottom of the fold lies a tall dam with a fair sized lake. The name, literally meaning 'Hill of the Stars' was chosen because of the astounding starscapes over the hill at night. Light pollution of low in all of the Western Algarve, and here, away from it all, there is almost none at all, making the stars stand out in a way that many have not seen before in their lifetimes.
